We All Know How It's Illegal For Players To Bet On Baseball!

It's safe to say the UCP has no shortage of unhappy campers after this week's referendum vote. Some claim that as many as 56% of party members were inclined to leave the federation. Once the result was known, Smith immediately went on the offensive, musing publicly that those whose hearts were still wedded to an independent Alberta should either put it on the back burner or leave the party. That took guts. However, talk about misreading party dynamics: now no one can credibly claim that the UCP is a federalist party, at least not in late 2026.

So what will happen on November 27-29 when the party holds its AGM in Calgary? Technically, Danielle's leadership isn't up for a vote. Lucky her! But were her comments seen as fighting words, and if so, what will party members do about it? They likely won't be able to push through a leadership vote then and there, but does this mean trouble for her leadership? In a word, probably.

But back to the misleading title of this post: as political diehards, don't bet the farm either way. Keep your money in your pocket. Granted, from on high, Smith looks to be in some difficulty already as far as I'm concerned. Nenshi likely thinks all of this will make him premier. Maybe, maybe not.
