CPC: Poilièvre Must Give Way To Harper.

There can be no question that this country is now facing by far its greatest national unity crisis. Separatists in Alberta are poised to win the referendum there while those in Quebec are likely to form at least a minority government this fall.

Given these dire political circumstances, the country needs to find a leader with the credibility, respect, drive and natural talent to sway voters in both jurisdictions. Taken together, no other political leader comes close to Harper. If Harper can't persuade Albertans to remain in Canada, then no one can. It's as simple as that.

As a result, Pierre needs to put country first and stand down, provided that Harper is prepared to take on this incredible challenge. Put another way, without Harper's return as CPC leader, the country is already lost.

What I'm hoping for is that Harper still has the fire in the belly and unquestioning commitment to Canada. I'm also betting that when push comes to shove, Laureen will allow it to happen to save this great country.

Put aside the irony about who the writer is and pray that Harper is up for it. Harper's second act, should it come to pass, will put him in the pantheon with Macdonald and Laurier.  May the gods be with us in this sacred effort.
