Poilièvre: It's So Painful, He's Like A Dog With A Bone.

Pierre just won't let it go. He wants an election yesterday so that we can get into power ASAP. Too bad that Poilièvre is such a bad strategist -- otherwise he would already know that he's playing right into Trudeau's hands, which is exactly what this Prime Minister was expecting. That's precisely why Trudeau is sticking around. He thinks he can pin Pierre as The Trump of the North. That normally, would be absolute nonsense.

But again, Pierre is going out of his way to leave precisely that impression, at least on the margins: who is Trump? A populist, autocrat who doesn't believe in the timetable for elections. Trump wants one more and then never another one. You see why this is dangerous for us Pierre, even though I have to explain it to you?

What kind of impression is the CPC leaving with this tactic? We're coming off as deliberately power hungry as if we want the next election on our own timetable, since we've already earned the right to govern. We don't want to wait our turn, assuming we win the election on the fixed election date. It's called giving Trudeau an opening with which he will try to drive a truck straight through it.

If I'm right, the Liberals will increasingly play the Trump card against us no matter whether Trump wins or loses. At best, that will start to put a dent in our polling numbers. At worst, it will slowly turn around the polling trend in the campaign.

So maybe, just maybe, you should drop it until both opposition parties are prepared to defeat the Liberals. Otherwise, you're just spinning your wheels and looking foolish, if not quite deliberately opportunistic and self-serving.
