What Broadhurst Didn't Say.

Broadhurst is gone in the wake of the demise of the supply and confidence agreement with the NDP. As one who has grudging admiration for his abilities, this is indeed a big loss for the Trudeau Liberals.

Broadhurst says the next campaign will be almost existential for the Liberals and that he no longer has the energy, or likely the desire, to try and save this Prime Minister's ass. His departure suggests two things: first off, those trying to get Trudeau to go have continually hit a brick wall, largely due to the latter's overinflated ego and pride and the assumption in his own mind that he can win again, which he can't. It also suggests that Broadhurst is probably among those who tried to get the PM to go and failed miserably.

And then there's this subtext which Broadhurst probably thinks but will never say publicly: he can't save this government in the next campaign and maybe just maybe no one else in his former position as national campaign director can save the Trudeau Liberals. That's it right there.

For those of you expecting an MP revolt when caucus meets on Monday in BC, forget it. Even Broadhurst's departure won't move the needle something that warms the heart of every Conservative. The only thing that can do that now is mass resignations from either cabinet or caucus to sit as independents and that isn't happening.

Captain Smith is delusional. He can't turn things around in the next campaign. The only thing they've got going for them is an expectation that Poilièvre will somehow blow it in the election. That's unlikely but at least theoretically possible. Grasping at straws, the new Trudeau Liberal specialty. So what's the only option left for Trudeau? As Kinsella reported, it's prorogation (which Harper did twice) and with Broadhurst's departure is seemingly more likely than not, given that Trudeau's back is finally against the wall in the corner of the room. That's the PM's only realistic out since he won't resign as Liberal leader.
